Colloquy - facilitated by Ellen Dinerman

Colloquy is an hour of deep listening, reflection on a theme (which is announced at the beginning of the meeting,) and sharing one’s thoughts after reflecting. It is ideally done in a small group format with a facilitator who has chosen the theme and who “manages” the group.

It follows a structured format where no discussion, no conversation, no responding to or even referring to other members of the group is permitted. Over time members of the group may feel a bonding and sense of intimacy developing within the group.

Colloquy was created in the mid-80's by Arthur Dobrin, Leader Emeritus of the Ethical Humanist Society of Long Island. His book, “Spelling God With Two OO’s” is the source for the themes. Some of those themes are :Change, Generosity, Caring, Friendship.

Ground rules for each Colloquy include: Confidentiality, Respect for the Start and End time for each meeting, keeping your camera “on” and your microphone “off” (in Zoom colloquies,) raising one’s hand to be recognized before speaking and having the right to pass during the Sharing go-around time.

REGISTRATION ON OUR WEBSUTE IS REQUIRED FOR THIS EVENT

If registering from an e-mail announcement, Click on this link to go to the registration page

A Zoom link will be sent to you before the event. The number of participants is also limited, so please register for this event well in advance.  Registration closes at 2:00 pm on Sunday, July 5, 2026. The facilitator, Ellen, has requested participants try to come early, so the meeting room will be open at 2:45pm.  This will allow a few minutes to talk before the meeting starts at 3:00pm. If participants arrive after Ellen has started the first reading, they will not be allowed to participate in the first sharing Go-around. But they will have an opportunity to speak in the second Go-around.
