Colloquy facilitated by Ellen Dinerman
Colloquy is an hour of deep listening, reflection on a theme (which is announced at the beginning of the meeting,) and sharing one’s thoughts after reflecting. It is ideally done in a small group format with a facilitator who has chosen the theme and who “manages” the group.
It follows a structured format where no discussion, no conversation, no responding to or even referring to other members of the group is permitted. Over time members of the group may feel a bonding and sense of intimacy developing within the group.
Colloquy was created almost 40 years ago by Arthur Dobrin, Leader Emeritus of the EthicalHumanist Society of Long Island. His book, “Spelling God With Two OO’s” is the source for the themes. Some of those themes are :Change, Generosity, Caring, Friendship.
Ground rules for each Colloquy include: Confidentiality, Respect for the Start and End time for each meeting, keeping your camera “on” and your microphone “off” (in Zoom colloquies,) raising one’s hand to be recognized before speaking and having the right to pass during the Sharing go-around time.
A Zoom link will be sent to you before the event. The number of participants is also limited, so please register for this event well in advance. Registration closes at 10:30 am on Sunday, August 4, 2024. The facilitator, Ellen, has requested participants try to come early so the meeting room will be open at 10:45am. This will allow a few minutes to talk before the meeting starts at 11am.
