Civility, respect, integrity, honesty, even truth, all seem somewhat quaint concepts in today’s quarrelsome world where fact is systematically replaced by fantasy. Can human progress, let alone lives of personal fulfillment, flourish in such an environment? In a nation, nay, in a world where common decency has lost its purchase in public discourse, political and otherwise, what hope has human progress?
