This talk is a confession, a commitment, and an exploration. Hugh Taft-Morales confesses that his reading habits have fallen prey to centuries of systemic neglect of women writers. He commits to reading one book of fiction written by a woman each month of 2021. This talk explores the reasons why his story is sadly familiar. How is sexism involved? What price have we paid for such literary gender bias? Must we even gender fiction?
