Questioning platitudes —broad statements regarding a people, nations, and finding a novel way to examine them. In a way, Merry has come full circle from the start of her Peace Corps experience in Costa Rica in 1965 to her immersion experience in Guatamala in July-August 2019. Merry seeks out “You are there” experiences and wants women (and men) to challenge constraints such as not doing things on your own. She will explain what an “immersion” program is like and maybe finding creative ways to find them in our busy, hectic lives.
