Description: Join David Roberts on Sunday, May 12 for a platform in which together we explore the music of Frederic Delius (1862-1934) and the writings of Friedrich Nietzsche (1844-1900) as fused together in Delius's monumental work Mass of Life (Eine Messe des Lebens). This piece was performed at Carnegie Hall in 2016. At over 100 minutes in length, it is way too long for a typical platform. Instead we will play several recorded selections from the Mass and discuss together the meaning of the text which, rather than being religious in nature, is drawn from Nietzsche's philosophical novel Thus Spoke Zarathustra and expresses a celebration of human will and the joys and sorrows of our earthly life together.
