Last Spring, a draft copy of a proposed rule change to the public charge determination made during immigration admittance proceedings was leaked to the press. If enacted, the proposed rule change would expand the kinds of benefits deemed a public charge to include non-cash benefits such as Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) and Medicaid or the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP). Edgar will be speaking on the potential impact of this rule change on the legal immigrant community and how he and other advocates are mobilizing public opposition.
Edgar will also provide an overview of his work to push for access to drivers’ licenses for undocumented immigrants in Virginia.
