Our second Cardboard Boat Regatta meeting is scheduled for February 25th at 2 pm at my house. Prior to the meeting please have your scouts review the handouts from the buoyancy meetup and get creative with their designs. It would be cool if the kids could create a PowerPoint presentation or poster showing their concept and include some info about the design and what special features it has. Options are to focus on performance, or they can have a more decorative theme. The scout can stand up and describe their design concept to the troop. In the engineering world this is called a Preliminary Design Review. Any child who wants to submit a design can do so. The kids will ultimately decide by vote.
After the presentation, we will teach the kids about structural design for making a strong boat. To make it interesting, this should include an activity for the kids to teach them how to build a strong structure. They will combine these 2 elements of design and structure to begin a construction plan.
