May Day Musings from your NoVES President, Chris Van Dyke
Happy May Day to everyone! On this day, historically there are two main ways to celebrate. The first is to mark the end of winter, often celebrated with music, dancing and gathering flowers. The second way is rallying for workers' rights by marching to demand better conditions. For myself, I plan to take time to appreciate the beauty of the earth around me and also to thank those that work tirelessly to help our world be a better place. Whatever way you choose to celebrate, I hope you have a day that restores your soul!
During the month of May, there are many ways to participate with NoVES. First, on Sunday, May 3, we will start with an All-Music Sunday, where we will enjoy the talents of our NoVES members and Friends. This event will be available in-person and on Zoom. Sunday, May 10th will be a zoom only discussion led by Melissa Sinclair on The Philosophy of the Saddle. No bike riding experience needed to enjoy this platform! Then on Sunday, May 17th, we will celebrate the 150th anniversary of the start of Ethical Culture. Our leader, Randy will talk on the rich history of Ethical Culture. There will also be online coffee hours and a new ethical culture history and philosophy class in May. Check out the calendar at www.noves.org for more details of these events.
During the month of May, we will collect donations to assist our valued Veterans. This will include both financial contributions and small items to be collected for a donation pick-up. So, if you had some items leftover from the swap meet, you can bring them to one of our two in-person meetings this month. Check the NoVES webpage for updates about the items that will be accepted for this collection.
I hope May will be a time to celebrate and support each other at NoVES and in our community, as we continue to rally for a more humane world together!
