I have been a teacher for thirty-nine years. My year begins on the first day of school in September and ends on the last day of school in June. Academicians who also followed a school year calendar founded our Ethical Culture society. I like their way of doing things!
Now, in June, our NoVES year is ending. Time seems to be speeding along and our June 6th membership meeting is ever closer. At the membership meeting, the Society will be electing new board members, reviewing the focus group report, and voting on the 2010-2011 budget. By working together, we will identify areas of growth and challenge that will affect our community in the years ahead. I look forward to meeting again in September. What will happen this coming year? What will we learn? What changes will we make? But, what of that time between the last meeting in June and the first meeting in September?
That magical time of summer - a long, lazy period of relaxation, rest, and recreation – offers us an opportunity for some enjoyable and different experiences. Colloquy will continue in the summer. Members will be hosting movie nights with stimulating discussions. Crafters will have an opportunity to join a craft and sewing group. Our own Doris Justis will be performing at various venues. For some adventure, there will be trips to the National Arboretum, the Smithsonian, and Occoquan. If you have a date for an event, please contact me at camstanton1@gmail.com. For more details, see the July/August newsletter and watch for e-mail updates. Here comes summer!
